Wire and cable are available in a wide range of diverse constructions, each of which provides different characteristics for the desired application. These can range from waterproofing, various levels of flexibility, resistance to harmful chemicals and materials, and even resistance against different temperature levels. The specific construction we'll be breaking down is the MGT construction, which also has the highest temperature rating that is readily available.
MGT Description:
The MGT construction is known for its highly temperature-resistant construction, enabling it to be used in some of the most demanding applications. Compared to other high-temperature wires, the MGT boasts the highest temperature-resistant construction, as it can perform consistently around 450°C while other constructions like the TGGT and TCGT are only able to withstand up to 260°C before materials begin to breakdown.
MGT UL5107 & UL5128 Construction:
Conductor: Stranded nickel-plated copper conductor
Insulation: Glass-reinforced mica tapes or mica composite
Overall Braided Fiberglass Jacket treated with the saturant
Voltage Ratings:
UL5128: 300 Volts
UL5107: 600 Volts
Approvals:
CSA AWM A/B FT1
UL5128 / UL5107 VW-1
NEMA WC 73-2000

MGT Wiring Application:
The MGT wiring construction has some of the most temperature-dependent applications in a number of manufacturing markets, such as iron mills, steel mills, glass plants, and cement kilns. The MGT wire also has additional protection from mechanical damage during handling, installation and servicing.
In General, the MGT high-temperature wire is available in various temperature ratings that range from 450°C on the low end and up to 538°C on the high end. This high-temperature cable is detrimental to a wide range of applications as it's one of the only constructions that can reliably operate in high-temperature environments.
